The individual raised in western society if often at a disadvantage when faced with the problem of learning, because of his worry with the question of “dominate or be dominated”, to which he gives intense interest and importance. He is often aware of the problem in crude form, and his literary and philosophical roots give him little ability to realize that the problem comes from the idea that there is only “struggle or be struggled against”. The inablity to make others do what we want and the reverse, the fear of being controlled by others, with the consequent loss of identity. These opposites are exagerated in paranoid thinking, one of the most prevalent mentak symptoms of western man. Since he cannot learn, or is hampered from learning by paranoia, he falls back on his conditioned being. The things he has been taught, or memorized, become absolute truth.
